A friend from Hamburg was visiting us in Munich last night, and I found out that she had never had a typical Bavarian breakfast. This morning, we had fresh "Weisswurst" - white sausages - with sweet mustard, large pretzels, and "Obatzda" - a cheese spread made with Camembert, cream cheese, butter, paprika, and chives. Not exactly diet food, but very, very delicious.
My friend from Northern Germany (who afterwards admitted she had been very skeptical about the white sausages) was surprised at how wonderful everything tasted. My Bavarian husband said that to be truly authentic, we had to drink beer with our breakfast. We opted for less authenticity and decided on black tea. Cheers - or as the Germans say "Prost"!
