Summer Guest from Kansas : Heather Smith Jones

Hi, I'm Heather and I'm guest posting today for Stephanie. She asked me to share a few highlights from my summer so I thought I'd share images from our garden and kitchen, a beach vacation, and how summer has inspired me in the studio.

In addition to being a studio artist I teach at an arts-based preschool part time. Yet this summer I have been taking a break from teaching and am enjoying my studio time and helping with our garden. I think this year we have the most productive garden we've had, because right now our kitchen counter is overflowing with more than 20 yellow squash and zucchinis! So we've been sharing this bounty with friends and needless to say, I'm scouting for good recipes!

A few weeks ago we took a week to visit my family and spend time on the beach. It was great to get away and my husband definitely needed time to relax. Visiting the ocean always inspires and refreshes me.

When we returned I began working on a new set of drawings called "the shell series" with imagery drawn from the treasures I found along the shore and also from stories collected through family history. They can be seen in my new Gallery Store that I just opened last week!

It has been a delightful summer and I only wish we could figure out how to make it last longer. Why do summers always fly by? {Sigh.}

Thank you Stephanie for allowing me to share a bit of my love for summer. I hope you and your family are having a great week!

And thank you to each of you. I'd love for you to visit me at my blog, Gallery Store, and Etsy shop.

Thank you Heather! Your garden images never cease to delight me, and I am loving your new Gallery Store and your seaside inspired artwork :)
