Jessica Swift is a Portland based artist and designer who'll share her holiday cheer, favorite movies, and her delightful Christmas ornaments with us today. Jessica is an optimistic and creative wonder woman - and lately she's been inspiring me to start running (well, I at least have running shoes now ;) - more on her blog!
I love the holidays! My favorite tradition is that each year my husband and I buy each other a new ornament.
I love pulling them out each year, remember who got which for who, hanging them on the tree, and thinking about our years together. I think this will continue to be an important holiday tradition, especially as we begin a family one day!
I used to make salt dough Christmas ornaments and ornaments made out of clothespins with my mom when I was a kid -- those are some of my favorite memories. She still has a few of them, which I love seeing on her Christmas tree when I'm home for the holidays.
My husband and I also started making funny Christmas cards a few years ago, featuring us and our cats, to send to our friends and family. We've got a funny plan for this year's card!
This year I was fortunate to get to lead a llama in the Portland Christmas Parade (I recently began volunteering at a llama ranch)-- hopefully this will be an annual tradition as well! It was so fun.
Some of my favorite holiday movies are:
How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown's Christmas, When Harry Met Sally (not really a Christmas movie, but for some reason I love watching it this time of year!), Elf, The Holiday (again, not a Christmas movie per se, but I love watching it around holiday time).
Thank you Jessica! What a jolly holiday time you have with your family watching movies and leading llamas through the Portland streets ;) I love your tradition of exchanging special ornaments too!
