I'm very happy to welcome Alena Hennessy this Friday, an artist based in Asheville, North Carolina who enchants with her magical mixed media paintings, lovely online classes, and fabulous workshops held worldwide!
I'm also a big fan of Alena's book Cultivating Your Creative Life - and the good news is that Alena's has a new book coming out this September! We'll get more details about the many lovely things Alena has been up to lately in her interview today, enjoy + happy Friday! xo
Welcome Alena! Please tell us about yourself, what you do, and name 5 of your favorite things.
Hi world! My name is Alena Hennessy and I am an artist, author, and facilitator of what I like to call 'beauty and magic' -- or delicious and meaningful art making.
Five favorite things? Oh goodness. I'll try and spice it up and pick a little something from different areas. I love Sigur Ros, the Jonsi station of Pandora is the best. Right now I am drinking a local Kombucha drink made with turmeric, pineapple, and coconut water that is pretty damn yummy. I will take sushi almost any day. And tacos. I like too many movies to mention. Give me sparkles, bright colors, coziness, the sea, and laughter. Oh, gee, I went way over five! That was too hard, sorry! :)
Where do you live, what do you like about it - and what place would you most like to visit one day?
Asheville, NC in the Blue Ridge Mtns in the SE corner of the States. Its a sweet fairy land of artists, activists, and magic (or mischief) makers.
I would love to visit Bali and Bhutan one day.
How do you manage to keep a good life/work balance and stay healthy and fit?
I let myself sleep as much as I need. I love to go on long walks and do Pilates in my living room. I eat mostly Paleo diet which I highly suggest. It was really easy actually for me to cut out gluten.
What is the most exciting adventure you ever had?
Hmm.... thats too hard! One? Well traveling to India was pretty out of this world. But I would say living in Italy at 22 years old changed me forever.
What are your favorite upcoming creative projects for 2014, and could you share some advice to those who would like to pursue a more creative, artistic path too?
I have a new book coming out this Fall! That is pretty exciting. It is entitled The Painting Workbook and will be out in September. My ecourses are going amazingly well, so happy about that, and I also have a rich schedule of workshops coming up (including one in Portugal and Oxford)!
Thank you Alena! It is always great to hear from you and find you what you are doing. You are working on so many inspiring things right now, go girl! xo
